Congratulations to our colleagues at the San Diego Supercomputing Center, ESIP and University of Illinois Urbana Champaign on their new NSF award to host the EarthCube office (ECO) for the next three years. This collaboration represents an excellent opportunity to further support the geoscience community with computational infrastructure and integrate the Earthcube community with the highly successful community platform developed by ESIP over the last 20 years.
As communicated in the SDSC news release, Rebecca Koskela, current Executive Director of DataONE, will be joining the EarthCube Office as the office’s first Executive Director in addition to her role as co-PI. Rebecca brings experience in informatics and high performance computing to the position, as well as familiarity with the Earth sciences community through her work with DataONE over the last ten years. As part of the planned transition of DataONE administration from the University of New Mexico to the University of California Santa Barbara, oversight of the DataONE program has been assumed by the Project Management Team.
We wish Rebecca every success for the future and look forward to continued collaborations with Earthcube through the new ECO.
