The 2017 DataONE Users Group Meeting will be held July 24th and 25th and collocated with the Summer ESIP Federation Meeting. Both meetings will be held at the Indiana Memorial Union, Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.
The DUG meeting will be a 2-day event July 24-25th featuring plenary presentations, topical breakout sessions and community led discussions. There is no cost for meeting registration.
Meeting Theme and Objectives
The 2017 meeting theme, “Data Discoverability, Reproducibility, and Sustainability”, will bring together stakeholders to explore current advancements in these areas. Community talks and posters that explore broad topics of discoverability, reproducibility and sustainability are invited. Some examples are provided below:
Data Discoverability: this theme focuses on providing access to distributed data across heterogeneous systems in efforts for aggregating, disseminating, and linking data and related research materials.
- Describing, Documenting, and Representing Data
- Connecting journal articles to datasets to repositories
- Distinguishing between publishing, data, preservation repositories
Reproducibility: this theme focuses on enabling research data to be used, reused, and duplicated in order for current and future researchers to understand, reproduced, and build on existing research data.
- Best Practices, Guidelines, and Standards
- Procedures, Tools, and Workflows
- Projects, Prototypes, and Use Cases
Sustainability: this theme focuses on implementing components, building blocks, and synergies necessary for the development, growth, and extensibility of projects throughout the project lifecycle and post-funding support.
- Collaborations, Partnerships, and Stakeholders
- Infrastructure, Resources, and Support
- Computation, Integration, and Certification
DataONE encourages DataONE Member Nodes, data scientists, researchers, scientists, students and others to submit abstracts for posters and talks.

Optional Social Event
Following the success and theme of the last DUG excursion, we have arranged for a private tour of Cardinal Spirits (http://cardinalspirits.com/tours/) on Tuesday Jul 25th at 7.15pm. Tours last approximately 45 minutes and include a full tasting and cocktail. The cost is $10 per person to be paid on the day provided we have sufficient numbers. Hotel Information
A block of rooms had been held at the GSA per diem rate of $104/night at the following hotels. The blocks will be held until July 7, 2017 or until they are filled, whichever comes first. The group rate has been coordinated through ESIP so if the hotel asks for a group name, please give ESIP and not DataONE.
For individuals not able to attend the meeting, we plan to live stream a number of sessions.

We are currently seeking nominations for Chair/Vice-Chair or Co-Chair positions for the DUG.
